Case 03 · Enterprise relationship · Vendor management · Escalation

Keeping customer trust when the dependency isn’t yours.

How do you create accountability when a critical dependency lives outside both your team and your customer?

01 / THE PROBLEM

A vendor dependency threatened a time-sensitive rollout while updates moved slowly and customer confidence eroded. The easy response was to keep asking for status. The useful response was to redesign the communication and accountability around it.

02 / THE APPROACH
  • Made owners, dependencies, decisions and dates explicit.
  • Translated vendor uncertainty into choices the customer and internal leaders could act on.
  • Set expectations directly and avoided false certainty.
  • Stayed accountable for momentum without pretending to control the vendor.
03 / THE OUTCOME

The work protected the relationship through a difficult delivery window and created a clearer model for cross-company escalation.
